Brian McKenna has been studying Oriental Medicine since 1978 and has been practicing acupuncture and Chinese medicine since 1986. He graduated from The International Institute of Chinese Medicine in Santa Fe, New Mexico and did postgraduate studies at Heilongjiang College of Tradition Chinese Medicine in Harbin, China.
He moved to Austin, TX in 1987 and cofounded the Healthy Practice, the first integrative medicine clinic in Texas. During that time, he also cofounded the Austin Immune Health Clinic, a free clinic supporting the health of HIV+ individuals. Brian served as a coordinator for NADA in Texas from 1987 to 1991 and as a Registered Trainer for NADA in Europe from 1991-1998. During this period, he trained several hundred physicians, nurses and psychotherapists in auricular acupuncture for substance use disorder and mental health problems. Upon his return to the Unites States, he served as a clinical supervisor and lecturer at the American College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
In 1999 Brian founded Acupuncture Medical Services in Houston, Texas. In 2003 he completed a Masters in Medical Qigong with the International Institute of Medical Qigong. In 2012 he completed advanced training in orthopedics for acupuncturists and was certified in Acupuncture Orthopedics with the National Board of Acupuncture Orthopedics. He is known by his patients and colleagues for his dedication to patient care, as well as for a diverse knowledge base and ability to integrate information across many disciplines. Brian is currently pursuing advanced studies in neurology and neuro-sciences, as well as Functional Medicine and is currently an instructor with the Neuro-Acupuncture Institute.
Rebecca Schmidt, LMT, CPT, CES
Personal Trainer, Corrective Exercise Specialist, Postural Consultant
Rebecca has been working in the Health and Wellness industry for over 16 years. She became a massage therapist over 10 years ago and blends Advanced Swedish with targeted work depending on client needs. She has a strong knowledge of anatomy, which aids in providing relief of muscular pain and tension in the body. She sought out a license in Personal Training 8 years ago when she wanted to have a more active role in helping her clients facilitate their own healing process and achieve their body strengthening goals.
She received her bachelor of science from La Salle University, has trained at Memorial Herman hospital, trained in Corrective Exercise and continually seeks out new information and research on all modalities to provide a mutli-disciplinary approach to building strength and mitigating pain.

Raphael began his athletic journey playing multiple sports throughout high school. He excelled in a variety of athletics such as soccer and track, but he fell in love with basketball. He quickly channeled all of his energy into determining how to become the best basketball player possible. In the pursuit to master his craft, he sought out ways to develop his strength, speed, and overall health. After getting a bachelor’s degree at the University of Fordham, He started working in the health and wellness industry as an office manager. He has been working for Dr. McKenna for the last 5 years and has become a certified personal trainer and nutritional consultant during that time.
He creates exercise and diet plans catered to his clients’ personal goals in order to optimize their health and performance.
